Myeloma Bracing
Bespoke Spinal Bracing for Multiple Myeloma
Over the last couple of years, LOC has developed links with local consultants to assist with the bracing of patients with multiple myeloma.
Your treating consultant will advise if a Thoracic Lumbar Sacral Orthosis (TLSO) or a Cervical Thoracic Lumbar Sacral Orthosis (CTLSO) brace is a suitable part of your myeloma therapy.
Bespoke spinal braces for myeloma can:
control pain by stabilising the spine
reduce the mechanical load on the vertebrae which may aid healing
prevent further spinal deterioration
protect the sternum and rib cage
Your spinal brace will also help to prevent any further collapse or fractures of your vertebrae.
Spinal braces must be very well-fitting to achieve the above goals. The best way to achieve a well-fitting spinal brace is to have it custom-made so that it is a perfect fit.
We take a 3D scan of your surface topography and use this to design your brace. We apply some light modelling via CAD/CAM software, before sending this to our
Rodin 4D milling machine Robot (Victor) to mill out a life-size version of you. Our experienced technicians then make your brace by hand.
As we have all the above resources on-site in our
Kingston Upon Thames clinic, we can turn our Myeloma Spinal Braces around within 48 hours. That means that braces are ready for fitting and supply two days following our initial assessment.
